Free Weights FAQs
Are free weights safe?
Yes if you use them correctly. No if you use them incorrectly. Free weights are like kitchen knives in this respect. We recommend free weights to people who have a solid understanding of the exercise movements they are performing.
Are free weights better than machines?
What is best is consistent safe exercise. Machines are generally easier to use safely so we recommend them for convenience and safety. Also you should consider what exercises are important to you. Lat pull downs are better on machines as are leg extensions, but it is difficult for a machine to provide a satisfying bench press.
What range of weights should I buy?
Different exercises will require different ranges of weights. Bench press is an exercise that requires more weight than an arm curl. Make a list of the exercises you would like to perform then either call our store or come by and we can help you determine what range would best suit your needs.
